Tropa Macaca (P)
A Mente Certa
sound performance, Italian première
A Mente Certa is the new audio-visual performance by the Portuguese duo Tropa Macaca, to be premiered at Live Arts Week 2016. Following their lo-fi ambient-noise inclination, the piece was inspired by the notion of how sincerity and authenticity are at stake in seduction, an indelible part of art and life. A techno balladry indivisible from a videographic ballet. The music of Tropa Macaca is the fruit of the subjectivity of a couple. “To love is to experiment, to problematize, to make something in the interstice or in the disjunction of the seeing, the talking and the making. The singular and specific love, as opposed to the universal one, belongs to the domain of the wild, rejected by knowledge and power and pushed to the margins, so much so that science can’t recognize it.”
Tropa Macaca is a project run by André Abel (guitar) and Joana da Conceição (synth & electronics), based in Lisbon and publicly active in the the field of electronic music for a decade. Their new record Vida is scheduled for release on The Trilogy Tapes, having had past vinyl phonograms published by creative music labels like Ruby Red, Qbico, Siltbreeze and Software, run by Daniel Lopatin. The compositions of Tropa Macaca are cathartic and deeply poetic pieces, as if looking for unfound places or trying to speak unknown languages. In all of them one finds a sort of ritualistic experience, where secrets unfold and mysteries are forever shattered.
