Alix Eynaudi (A/B/F)

Edelweiss

performance, italian première

Edelweiss is a danced rebus where signs and references abound, each existing in their own right. It’s a performance that plays with intelligibility and tactility in order to blur the boundaries between us and the world. The overwhelming sensuality of Edelweiss suggests a connectivity towards the ocean of materials in which human bodies are inserted. All the elements follow a dialogical mode in which the image/notion becomes versatile like a piece of cloth until it fits snugly around us, and we in turn adapt to fit comfortably around it – it becomes a second skin. Edelweiss treats all of its components as beloved works of art: it is precious time spent on gestures, sirens and robots, fabrics and drawings. Eynaudi cultivates affection for the skilful dedication of the craftsman – she embraces techniques as forms of poetry, and artistry as a form of care. Inspirited by Klimt, Emilie Flöge, sport, 19th-century aquariums, babies, the 1970s, the future and the experimental artists Fontana and Ferrari, Edelweiss is a meditation on the taste for signs and the taste of each sign, when signification is on leave.
